Who needs $1 Stores when you have Daiso - Day 26 - May 31, 2010

Breakfast Sandwich for Lunch

Looks familiar? It's the hanbao jiadan. I bought this at the breakfast shop behind Shida. I use to get one of these last summer all the time. However, it cost more than others. This place charges 35NT=$1.09. But they have more vegetables and the fried pork pattie taste fresher. This breakfast shop uses lettuce, tomato, corn, and cucumbers for the vegetables. They also had a really light ketchup flavor and a fried egg. Yum yum!

Vietnamese Dinner

I ate at Madame Jill Vietnamese Cuisine in Gongguan Night Market. Their food has improved from last year! But their stuff is pretty pricey.

Deep fried chicken with pickled carrots and cucumbers for 110NT=$3.43

The first two pieces of chicken were really good and flavorful. The drumstick didn't match though. The soup was also really salty, but yet addicting.

Daiso

Daiso is basically Taiwan's version of our $1 stores in the states. Everything in Daiso cost 39NT=$1.22. It's a tiny bit higher but everything in the store is so much better! It has everything, frying pans, hair ties, makeup, containers, toys, scrap-booking material, and more. Of course, you probably don't want to get your mini frying pan or makeup there because most likely they suck. But there are some good finds there!

There is even a section for massage tools and snacks.

I don't know if the balloon boobs are a good find, but they're definitely funny. There are also tools to make bento boxes! I bought a couple of them =)

I Got PLAYED! - Day 25 - May 30, 2010

I haven't told you the story about how I got played yet. This happened on the 28th or 29th. It's pretty much a fail, but worst since I got played!

Let's call this FAIL #15

Theresa and I taught our landlord Mic how to play the game and the meaning of getting played. We have been going back and forth playing the game. It's been probably about a week or a week and a half that time and I never heard him use getting played yet.

The night before my failed happened, I wrote the game on the bear balloon and left it in the community room of the hostel. He saw it of course haha. Then Mic left the computer and left facebook on. So I seized the chance to write the game pengyou (friend) and he saw it later and started laughing. When he was helping a guest, I hid a sticky note on the back of his cell phone. It said the game pengyou.

The next day I asked Mic if he saw the note that I left him last night.
Mic: No
Me: What? I put it there!
Mic: No I didn't see anything.
Me: Oh maybe it's still in the room.
Mic: Oh I have to ask you something.

So I followed Mic to where the washer and dryer was.
He shows me a sock and underwear, laughs and ask if it was mine. I told him nooo
So then he opens the dryer door and it was my sticky note that I left on his cellphone.

I went to Theresa and told him what he did because that was good haha. I asked him if he knew the sock and underwear wasn't mine. He says, "Oh yeah I know. I play you hahaha."

There it is. I got played BAD! FAIL

Pizza Hut in Taiwan

I couldn't resist getting Pizza Hut again for lunch. I woke up at 2:30pm on this day (Sunday), showered, and ordered a personal pizza =) I was suppose to go to the hot springs, but of course, Taipei doesn't seem to want me to go bike riding or hot springs on the weekend. I wanted to try this new pizza that they're currently offering at Pizza Hut. But they don't make them for personal =( At least it doesn't say on the menu. It's okay, I love Kimchi and Pork pizza!

Personal Kimchi & Pork: 99NT =$3.09 Added stuffed crust for 20NT=$0.62

Do you know the limited offer in the states of Cheesy Bites? The offer usually appears during the summer for a month and disappears. It's basically pieces of crust stuffed with cheese that you can easily tear off the pizza. It's so good! If you wanted to add that on for your personal, it would be 30NT=$0.94. I should have done that since they don't offer it in the states year around and I think it tastes soooo goood.

I love cheap tasty dinners!

I ate at a little restaurant that's close to Shida. It's hidden at some alley with a couple of other restaurants and shops. I always forget to take a picture of the store front >_< All their dishes are cheap though and they give so much! Check it out...

I love my jipai (chicken breast), especially when they deep fry it! You get free soup at the restaurant too. This meal was 50NT=$1.56. The side dishes includes: tofu, cabbage, and vegetable that I don't know the name of.

Gamers

I spent the rest of my evening at Taipei Main Station's underground mall looking for souvenirs to get for my friends. As usual, there is always a hot spot of men/boys staring the TV screen. I decided to join them haha =)

7-Eleven Food

I eat a lot. I can't help it. I was craving for munchies at night. I decided to try the jiaozis (dumplings) at 7-Eleven. They were 35NT=$1.09. Might as well give it a shot!

It was alright tasting, not the best of course, but a good snack. There are ten dumplings by the way, I just forgot to take a picture before hand =)

I love Chicken - Day 24 - May 29, 2010

Okay it's true, almost everything I do in Taipei is eat and shop. I can't help it! I've been told that I did almost everything last year when I study aboard. There isn't much things to do except maybe venture out of Taiwan. Unfortunately, I didn't bring enough money for that =(

The weather isn't on my side

81NT=$2.53 - Half strawberry yogurt and half mango yogurt with chocolate chips, cereal, and this fruit.

I was suppose to go Zhuwei today to rent a bike and bike around to a bridge and then to Danshui for some ice cream. But of course, it rained again! I went to Danshui anyway with Theresa to do some gift shopping and eat some frozen yogurt! I love frozen yogurt. My frozen yogurt was more expensive this time because I didn't know the yogurt was going to squirt out fast.

Amazing Chicken

So I went to this restaurant that was advertising a meal for 50NT=$1.56. You get to pick three side dishes and a piece of meat. You get free soup as well. Well I picked the fried chicken and it was just amazing. The skin/batter part was sooo crispy! It was so delicious. They put this seasoning on top and it just made everything 10x better. I chose really good side dishes too!

Chose bok choy, green beans, and skinny clear noodles for side dishes. But that chicken just topped everything!

Twiice Club

I think it's called Twiice Club. Well whatever it's called, it use to be called 9 Percent and I went there a couple times last summer. Unfortunately, the club sucks now! The music got so much lamer. They kept playing Lady Gaga and this one song of Pitbull like three times each! And of course they play more than one song of Lady Gaga. There are also an abundance of males at the club. Dislike! They are definitely creepers. But I still had a good time with Zack, Theresa, and Phil.

It was 500NT=$15.61 to get in for females with unlimited drinks. I got their sex on the beach and it wasn't very tasty =( It use to taste good. Never ever go to Twiice Club!

Rice Burger & Shopping - Day 22 & 23 - May 27/28, 2010

Score! Exchange rate went from 31.89 to 32.04NT per dollar!

May 26, 2010: Carved Noodles

Have you ever seen carved noodles? The chef gets this big glob of dough and uses a flat sharp tool to carve the noodles. He then drops them into the boiling water to get cooked. I tried looking for a video but couldn't find it. It's pretty cool to see how fast he goes. But that's what I had for lunch today =) Stir fried carved noodles. The restaurant had a new addition to their restaurant, a new room.

I ordered Pork and Mushroom noodles, didn't see any mushrooms though... Maybe it's suppose to be mushroom sauce? But this had cabbage, pork, carrots, and whatever that black thing is. 90NT=$2.81

Kao Ya (Roast Duck)

I freaking love eating duck. It's so good. Each place I went to Taipei taste a little different and uses a difference sauce. This duck place near Shida Night Market tasted like the states. The thing that sucked though was there was a lot of bone and not much meat. But the side dishes were good!

80NT=$2.50 =) Side dishes include vegetables, skinny mushrooms, peppers with little fish, and this other mixture with carrots and celery.

May 27, 2010: Shopping Again at Wufenpu

Back to Wufenpu for shopping! You really do need a second day at least to shop (unless you shop for like 8 hours straight or something). I took two pictures at Wufenpu though. You can see there are a lot of stores. Those stores are pretty much like warehouses since they have so many clothes stored everywhere at their shop.

I didn't get too much this time. I was watching my spending this time =)

Each scarf was 100NT=$3.12

100NT=$3.12

MOS Burger

I was finally able to try a rice burger! I saw it a couple years ago and wondered how it tasted like. I was kind of disappointed though =( The bun is made out of rice of course. I thought the rice bun was going to be crispy or something. It just tasted like ordinary rice stuck together. A rice burger pretty much taste like when you eat rice with side dishes, but for lazy people.

The pork tasted good though =) This rice burger also had lettuce and onions.
Shogayaki Burger: 60NT=$1.87

Why can't Korean BBQ be this cheap in America? - Day 21 - May 26, 2010

Mosquito Bites of the Day: 1
Total: 11

I got bitten on my toe >_< They won't leave me alone! That's one of the worst spots to have =(

I'm still surprised by how cheap some food is here in Taiwan. But there are some things that are expensive here. For example, a double cheeseburger from McDonalds in Taiwan is around $3.00. I wish the double cheeseburger was cheap here, I would be all over that!

Fail #13

I was reading a Chinese/English menu at this restaurant. I saw one that said a pork and vegetable dumpling for 20NT=$0.62. I was thinking it was probably this huge dumpling or multiple dumplings in a dish. Well turns out it was a bao-zi type of deal (steamed bun). It did say 大包 (da bao, big wrap) I think on the order sheet haha. Oh well, I was going by the English.

I also ordered a fried silk bread for 30NT=$0.94. This was really good, you just have to eat it with something else or else you get tired of the bread taste. It doesn't taste as good if you take it to go and eat it later.

Extreme Two Hour Fail #14

To get to Gongguan Night Market, you can take the MRT or take bus #74 to get there. Taking the bus is a lot cheaper than the MRT, about half the price or less depending how far your destination is. Well I usually go to the bus stop by Shida (NTNU). Well, I saw these other signs and I thought the loop to Shida wasn't going to be that long. Turns out the loop was an hour long.

I had to stay on the bus for an hour, get off, pay, and hope onto another #74 going back towards Shida to get to Gongguan. So it took me two hours to get to Gongguan to eat Korean BBQ for dinner when it should have taken about 15 minutes.

Along with that, it turns out that Gongguan Night Market is about a 15 minute walk from my hostel. I never knew it was on the same road! What a FAIL.

Korean BBQ Time!

On the bright side, the longer bus ride made me hungry so I can eat more at the restaurant =) The restaurant is near the Campus Book Store. It's across the street from a small water park. I think it's a water park -shrugs- I was pretty disappointed with the restaurant that night because they gave less side dishes. There use to be at least five but it went down to three. LAME. But their meat still tasted good =)

Side dishes: Seaweed, bean sprouts, and kim chi
Meat: Pork (on the bbq thing), chicken, beef, lamb, and steak or thick pork pieces?
Others: Rice, Cabbage, Asian vegetable, carrots, tofu, and clear skinny noodles.

263NT=$8.21
