Let's go to kKk - Day 44 - June 18, 2010

It's been so long since I wrote a blog! I apologize!
I've been out pretty late, coming back, and knocking out when I get back since I had to get up early this past week. You'll know why when I continue my blog!

Snacks!

My supervisor gave me some snacks to try when I met up with her for work. The first picture's box looks pretty right? Inside there is a pineapple cake. This is probably the best brand of pineapple cake I tried. They're pretty pricey though! I saw a pack that sold each one for 15NT=$0.47. The second snack is from Japan. It had a weird texture to it, like really smooth but grainy to me at least. It was too sweet for me though.

What noodles?

60NT=$1.86

I read on the English translated menu that this was Pork wontons with noodles in soup. There was only five strands of skinny clear noodles. Wow lol, what lies! It tasted good though. I enjoyed the broth as well =) This bowl also had a lot of onions in there as well.

Ximen

I always enjoy looking at the huge advertisements at Ximen. Look at the second picture! Go go power rangers!

Theresa and I were craving for desert. We decided to split this strawberry ice thing. I wouldn't know what you would call it. It taste like water ice, but a little bit more frozen. It was really good, but it got really sweet after you eat half of it. It's definitely something you want to get to share.

The KKK

No not really, I'm talking about a store called kKk haha. It's a shoe store in Ximen.

Apparently they have a sister store. This kKk wants you to JUST WEAR IT!

I passed the Modern Toilet restaurant that I ate last year. It's a toilet/bathroom themed restaurant where your food served on toilets, squatting toilets, sinks, etc. The food wasn't good there and it was expensive.

Last Purchases

My shopping has come to an end since my days in Taiwan are limited. I can no longer splurge. These are my last purchases of the trip, at least I think so haha unless I have extra money towards the end.

350NT=$10.92

The smallest business shoes that I shall try out.

Shaved Ice Goodness - Day 43 - June 17, 2010

50NT Meals

I love 50NT=$1.55 meals. You get so much for so little and they taste good! I still get amazed from how much they give. The first 50NT restaurant I went to was in Danshui. I spotted one behind Shida and wanted to give it a shot =)

There are some combination where you pay more than 50NT, but that's if you choose a bigger meat or something more expensive like fish.

I love this fried chicken, it's so crispy and good! I love the seasoning they put on it, I'm not really sure what it is, but if I see it in the groceries, I'll definitely bring a bottle back! The eggplant was also amazing. They don't give you much of it though =(

I went to the Shilin Night Market for some shaved ice. I remembered it was really good at Shilin when I went last year. What is shaved ice? It's basically shaved ice with fruits on top and with condensed milk all over the fruits. The condensed milk eventually sinks to the ice. Some shops add a little condensed milk in the shaved ice to make it even better tasting. This shop did, at least it tasted like it!

100NT=$3.10

The owner was kind enough to take off 10NT because Theresa is allergic to mango and she didn't have many strawberries. Strawberries aren't in season at this time. There's also pineapple and kiwi. Amazingly good, must go back for more!

Anyways...

Look at this Holiday KTV! I been to Shilin so many times and never looked up to see what was right in front of me. A huge KTV building. I even walk around this building and under it, but didn't know there was a KTV. I think I did the same thing last year as well where I discovered it towards the end of my trip.

Here is a view that the Shilin MRT station provides...

And the inside of the MRT if you ever wonder how one looks like.

I love holidays - Day 42 - June 16, 2010

Mosquito Bites of the Day: 2
Total: 19

Freaking mosquito bit me on the hand and pinky!

Dragon Boat Festival

Today is actually a national holiday, the dragon boat festival. A lot of people get off from work, including the place I work in. That means I get to sleep in ^_^ The original plan was actually to wake up and go to the festival or to the zoo. But both of those didn't happen. Ended up snoozing, sleeping in, and waking up at 3:30pm. It's so bad!

Shida Night Market

Instead, I ran five laps on Shida's track. So that could be 1.25 miles. I'm gradually improving =) After that was dinner at the hand shaved noodle shop. On the way there, I took some pictures. The first picture shows the area artists usually come by and perform their music. Last year I saw a girl singing her songs and trying to sell her albums. Today was a man playing his violin. The second picture is just part of Shida Night Market.

Dinner at Hand Carved Noodle Shop

You get this view on the second floor of the restaurant. The second picture shows my one of my favorite restaurants. The yummy chicken restaurant ^_^ You can also see how crowded night markets get. It's a pain to walk through the crowds, especially because people walk soooooo sloooooowwwwwwww. You have to try to weave your way through if you want to go faster.

Let's start with small side dishes.

This is free pickled vegetable you can grab.

Pickled cabbage for 30NT=$0.93

Pickled cucumbers for 30NT=$0.93

Fried rice for 80NT=$2.48. It was good, but it needed more flavor. I mixed the sauce of the stir fried noodles into the fried rice. That made it good =)

A big plate of the stir fried hand shaved noodles is 90NT=$2.79. Theresa dugged in already so I didn't take a picture of the plate. But I ordered this before and it is good!

Each little cake thing is 10NT=$0.31. The first one has pieces of mango around the cake part and the other is strawberry. They both have cream inside. It's good!

I like to eat giant jipais - Day 41 - June 15, 2010

Mosquito Bites of the Day: 6
Total: 17

It's been a while since I got mosquito bites. I woke up with four bites and got my fifth one when I went to Shilin Night Market =( One on my face, one on my left arm, two on my right, one on my right index finger, and one on my ankle (from Shilin) -_-

Giant Jipai at Shilin

I went to the Shilin Night Market to eat my giant jipai! There is always a long line to get one of these babies.

50NT=$1.55

Do you see the size of that big? It's seriously the size of that big. It's HUGE. It's actually good, but I got tired of it once I finished a little over a half. It got salty and oily for me. It fills you up pretty up too.

This is a picture of a typical fresh fruit and vegetable stand. I got bored while standing in line.

Ximen

30NT=$0.93

I went to Ximen after the Shilin Night Market so Theresa can get her ear pierced. I found a drink place that had Almond Milk Tea! I've been looking for a place that has this and it tasted pretty good! The one I tried at Shida tasted like crap >_<

I also bought two tops for the winter since I don't have many winter clothes. I couldn't find any other colors that looked good aside from gray -_-

I love food too much - Day 39 & Day 40 - June 13 & 14, 2010

June 13, 2010

Kim chi & pork: 99NT=$3.07 Cheesy Bite Add-on: 30NT=$0.93

I enjoy weekends because I have all the time in the world for lunch. What does that mean? I order pizza hut! I love pizza for lunch. So delicious. I got my usual Kim Chi & pork pizza since that's the only personal pizza that sounds good to me. The rest of the personal pizza are usually seafood topping or similar to American style pizza. I also added cheesy bites =) I wished I had more of the middle part and not so much of the cheesy bites. It was still good though!

I didn't do much for the rest of the day except went to Gongguan Night Market and Shida Night Market since they're close by. Rainy days make me lazy. But here's my dinner!

Zhupai! (Deep fried pork) The plate was huge! Didn't like the tofu with salted fish. 65NT=$2.02

I did buy one thing though. A pair of shorts from Shida Night Market. Finally found a pair of shorts without weird stuff on the front and back pockets.

250NT=$7.76

June 14, 2010

36NT=$1.12

The student cafeteria is starting to grow on me. Mainly so I can eat Chinese sausage haha. I love Chinese sausage, it's not as good as my parent's but it's still yummy! I was really excited to get that and some greens but they didn't have my greens! I had to get these beans instead that was super salty. They brought the greens out about ten minutes after I paid for my food =(

Spicy Chicken Breast: 44NT==$1.37 Daan Tart (Egg Tart) with Mochi: 31NT=$0.96

You bet your butt this was good. I was surprised the egg tart with mochi was good as well. I love KFC chicken here <3

Ximen

Ximen are filled with illegal stands. They run when they see cops. It's funny. The cops came walking around so many times. The cops don't even do much, they just walk and the stands relocate themselves and hide. Then they come out with the cops disappear. It was a bad night for them, the cops were loitering around for a while.

A jean shop.

Ay Chung Noodle Shop

Apparently Ay Chung Noodle Shop is really popular. They're famous for their really thin flour rice noodle. There is always a huge line for these noodles (the line is fast though). I've been wanting to check this place out to see what it's all about. To my surprise, I was kind of disappointed. Maybe it's because I'm an Asian American or something but legit Asian people here love this shop.

A small bowl size for 45NT=$1.40. There is cilantro and thick chicken skin or something with the noodles. It tasted alright, not something I'll get again.

My new uber hat!

300NT=$9.31

Check it out! It has a mouth haha. my new uber hat! Buying this hat made my day.
