Fails - Day 32 - June 06, 2010

Fail #18

Today there were many fails. Well the only fails I remembered were two major ones (my memory sucks!) I met an American guy at 7-Eleven. He gave me two of the stickers to get a toy for free if you collect enough haha. But I don't think I'll be able to collect 11 or whatever the amount is (I'm at 4). He gave Theresa and I a flyer of events to go to. One being a vegetarian potluck at Daan Park this day from 2pm-8pm.

We didn't get there until 6pm of course and most of the food was gone. There were still activities going on such as music playing. It was basically a social event with some performances. There was also a comedian thing too. So I just took pictures of random stuff at the park. I really wanted food =( Sad haha.

So let me tell you a little about Daan Park. First of all, it's huge and I mean huge! A lot of people go there to do Tai chi. You can tell from the pictures there's a lot of art structure type of things (I don't know what you call them lol). People hold events there and such. Daan park also has a playground for children and an area for everyone to rollerblade/roller skate.

There is even an area where a path is structured a certain way. But basically it's different shapes of stones and rocks are set. The width between them start width then it gets narrow. You're suppose to walk on top of it barefoot. It's suppose to make you feel really good. I tried it last year, it just hurt me and my feet got dirty since I kept sliding off =( I didn't run into it this year though.

Fail #19

Theresa heard from our friend Dex that there is a night market near Yuchun that sells a lot of cheap stuff. But we couldn't find it haha. We thought it may have been Songde Market (saw it on the MRT map). I think we found that market but it mostly sold vegetables and fruits. My mom would have loved that area.

But luckily, we were close by to Wufenpu =) Decided to revisit there instead.

Fail #20

It's always good to try new food right? Well sometimes no... Theresa and I tried a new food stand for dinner and it wasn't all that great. We should have stuck to the usual food stand we go to because you get so much for just 50NT=$1.56.

The bowl of rice with fatty pork meat wasn't too bad. I mean it tasted okay, just not as good as the other rice bowl we get at Wufenpu. I was really disappointed and was still hungry after haha. But I mean, it was 30NT=$0.94, so I shouldn't have expected much.

These aren't fails!

550NT=$17.21

100NT=$3.13

200NT=$6.26

150NT=$4.69

150NT=$4.69

200NT=$6.26

I Got PLAYED! - Day 25 - May 30, 2010

I haven't told you the story about how I got played yet. This happened on the 28th or 29th. It's pretty much a fail, but worst since I got played!

Let's call this FAIL #15

Theresa and I taught our landlord Mic how to play the game and the meaning of getting played. We have been going back and forth playing the game. It's been probably about a week or a week and a half that time and I never heard him use getting played yet.

The night before my failed happened, I wrote the game on the bear balloon and left it in the community room of the hostel. He saw it of course haha. Then Mic left the computer and left facebook on. So I seized the chance to write the game pengyou (friend) and he saw it later and started laughing. When he was helping a guest, I hid a sticky note on the back of his cell phone. It said the game pengyou.

The next day I asked Mic if he saw the note that I left him last night.
Mic: No
Me: What? I put it there!
Mic: No I didn't see anything.
Me: Oh maybe it's still in the room.
Mic: Oh I have to ask you something.

So I followed Mic to where the washer and dryer was.
He shows me a sock and underwear, laughs and ask if it was mine. I told him nooo
So then he opens the dryer door and it was my sticky note that I left on his cellphone.

I went to Theresa and told him what he did because that was good haha. I asked him if he knew the sock and underwear wasn't mine. He says, "Oh yeah I know. I play you hahaha."

There it is. I got played BAD! FAIL

Pizza Hut in Taiwan

I couldn't resist getting Pizza Hut again for lunch. I woke up at 2:30pm on this day (Sunday), showered, and ordered a personal pizza =) I was suppose to go to the hot springs, but of course, Taipei doesn't seem to want me to go bike riding or hot springs on the weekend. I wanted to try this new pizza that they're currently offering at Pizza Hut. But they don't make them for personal =( At least it doesn't say on the menu. It's okay, I love Kimchi and Pork pizza!

Personal Kimchi & Pork: 99NT =$3.09 Added stuffed crust for 20NT=$0.62

Do you know the limited offer in the states of Cheesy Bites? The offer usually appears during the summer for a month and disappears. It's basically pieces of crust stuffed with cheese that you can easily tear off the pizza. It's so good! If you wanted to add that on for your personal, it would be 30NT=$0.94. I should have done that since they don't offer it in the states year around and I think it tastes soooo goood.

I love cheap tasty dinners!

I ate at a little restaurant that's close to Shida. It's hidden at some alley with a couple of other restaurants and shops. I always forget to take a picture of the store front >_< All their dishes are cheap though and they give so much! Check it out...

I love my jipai (chicken breast), especially when they deep fry it! You get free soup at the restaurant too. This meal was 50NT=$1.56. The side dishes includes: tofu, cabbage, and vegetable that I don't know the name of.

Gamers

I spent the rest of my evening at Taipei Main Station's underground mall looking for souvenirs to get for my friends. As usual, there is always a hot spot of men/boys staring the TV screen. I decided to join them haha =)

7-Eleven Food

I eat a lot. I can't help it. I was craving for munchies at night. I decided to try the jiaozis (dumplings) at 7-Eleven. They were 35NT=$1.09. Might as well give it a shot!

It was alright tasting, not the best of course, but a good snack. There are ten dumplings by the way, I just forgot to take a picture before hand =)

Let's start shopping - Day 18 & Day 19 - May 23/24, 2010

May 23, 2010

I woke up late as usual on a weekend. I stayed up until 6AM and woke up at 3PM. It felt GOOD. I just couldn't sleep! So what happens when I wake up really late? I take a shower and find food. But I'm too lazy to walk to the night market (even though that takes 10 minutes) I rather walk to 7-Eleven that's a minute away for lunch.

Sandwich 35NT=$1.12. Half the sandwich was regular ham, cucumbers and mayo. The other half was the same but with smoked ham (at least it tasted like it). It was yums! Wish they had cheese in it though.

Triangle Rice Ball was 18NT=$0.57. It was pretty good and fulfilling. The meat had a lot of flavor.

After lunch was done, I went to visit my landlord Mic's new clothing store. It's located near the Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT stop on the blue line. I didn't take a picture of the store though. There was a lot of people, would have felt awkward haha.

Can't go wrong with chicken

This is the meal I usually get if I want something pretty healthy or get my rice intake of the day. I enjoyed their side dishes that night =) Noodles (w/ bean sprouts ew), green beans, and tofu!

I was also craving for snacks. Decided to buy the coconut cookie. I love it so much! It's a little more expensive here though.

I think it was about 45NT=$1.41. It tastes exactly how it's suppose to =)

May 24, 2010

I couldn't sleep until 3AM last night. Getting up 9AM is a pain! I can't believe I woke up at 8AM during the school year everyday >_< I ate lunch in the student cafeteria, got the same Chinese sausage and a different vegetable. The food wasn't as oily as it normally was =)

I also went to the bank to exchange some money. The exchange rate went up! It was 31.33NT per $1USD, now it's 31.89NT! Woot woot! The cents to make a difference!

Ximen

I went to Ximen with Theresa to shop for some clubbing clothes and other things. I had really good luck finding some stuff. But let's start off with food, I love eating at places in Ximen =)

First tried this oyster noodle thing. It was pretty good, but it got too seafoody for me. The meat stuff in there was good as well. 45NT=$1.41

This small bowl didn't fill me up at all. Which was a good thing because I wanted some deep fried chicken!

A small bag for 55NT=$1.72. It was very tasty =) loved it1

On the way back, stumbled upon a clown making things out of the balloon. I couldn't tell if it was a guy or a girl. But the clown made a flower for the boy. The clown told the boy that he should give it to the girl. The clown even hummed the wedding bell songs. It was entertaining and cute. Then the clown spotted Theresa and I and told us to come. So I just went up there and the clown made me a little bear =)

The red bear is now chilling in the living room of my hostel greeting people.

I love shopping

So for some reason, I got really lucky with finding things I wanted. I was doing so well not buying a lot of clothes. I lasted for two weeks and I caved in. These are the things I bought. The only thing I didn't take a picture of were my jeans. I got a pair of jeans for 900NT=$28.22. The store that I got it from even altered my jeans for me for free =) It only took five minutes too, they did a great job.

I really liked the stores I went to. The workers were really friendly. I bought a top at one person's stand. She knew some English and was pretty good at working the customers. She thought Theresa and I were noobs! Theresa wanted a belt that was 390NT. So she told us she would give us a 10% discount that came to 351NT. But since we were foreigners, she would sell it to Theresa for 300NT. But most people just say 300NT if an item was 390NT. So it wasn't new to us. But I give her props!

Two pieces together for 450NT=$14.11.

The new style in Taiwan is to wear the zipper in the front. I put this on top of my clothes in front of the mirror (since you're not allowed to try on tops) to see how it would look like. The worker said I had it on backwards, but putting the "back" as the front looked a lot better.

This top/dress was only 390NT=$12.23! And I can't fit it =( Giving it away to my roomie or my cousins if she can't fit it either.

Belt for 200NT=$6.27

That's all for today! Wait until you see the other clothes I got from today (May 25). =)

Pizza Hut owns in Taiwan - Day 17 - May 22, 2010

Today was planned to go to the hot springs. Well that didn't happen haha. I ended up going to bed around 4AM in the morning and woke up at 2PM the next day. I was too lazy to walk anywhere since I thought I was going to the hot springs. But Theresa and I got pretty lazy. Especially since we were planning to go to Baby 18 to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a fail with the club, you'll see why as you keep reading!

7-Eleven for Lunch

7-Eleven here are so convenient and smart. I have no idea why they don't do this in the states. I guess it's because they don't want to spend extra money. GREEDY AMERICANS!

Anyways check out this cool bag 7-Eleven gives you when you buy food that they can warm up in the microwave for you to eat. Such great service!

Bacon cream pasta for 55NT=$1.76. It's not as creamy/alfredo tasting like it is in the States. It is more mild but not too bland. I kind of like it, I get sick of the extreme cream buttery taste that America has. The bacon tasted more like ham though haha.

Pizza Hut in Taiwan

Pizza Hut in Taiwan is just amazing! They have so many different topping and combination to choose from. They have some of the same options like in the states with the whole supreme/meat lover type of pizza. But they have other options such as different seafood pizza where there are squid and shrimp. They even have a Kimchi and pork pizza! The Kimchi and pork pizza was delicious. Theresa, Mic, and I ordered a lot to share =)

Special deal on the wings. 90NT=$2.87

Creamy pasta with mushrooms and chicken for 129NT=$4.12. I liked it since it didn't have a huge rich flavor.

Kimchi and pork pizza! It might sound weird but it was really good! The kimchi wasn't too strong. It was a perfect balance with the dough, cheese, and pork. 12 inch pizza for 620NT=$19.79. Worth the price.

Forgot what this pizza is called. But a translation I got was Sea Double King off of google. It's probably wrong haha. This is a half seafood pizza with squid, shrimp, pineapple, and mayo on top. The second half had Italian and German sausage with German style ham. A 12 inch would have cost 620NT=$19.79. But there was a buy 1 get 1 free deal =)

CLUB FAIL! FAIL #12

Here's the story. We were suppose to meet up with a group of friends for a birthday at Baby 18. But we wrote down the wrong address. We wrote down the address for Room 18. FAIL! Ended up spending 700NT=$22.34 to get in and get two free drinks instead of 400NT=$12.77 to get in with unlimited drinks. Might not be clubbing for a while unless it's free or super cheap to get in. So expensive >_<

So white from all that smoke ick.

Room 18 is an alright club. It's really spacious when it comes to a lot of booths to sit, chill, and drink your hearts out. But their dance floor is really small. The music doesn't get good until after midnight. They have one area where they mostly play techno/dance music. Then the other room is more of what we're use to in the states (hip hop, rap, and R&B) However, Room 18 plays a lot of crunk music. I don't dance to that haha, except for some songs. The dancers there don't dress as skanky and girls that go to that club aren't as skanky either compared to 9% (or what it is now called Twiice club)

Check out this jabbawockee haha.
